ANNUAL REPORT 14TH NOVEMBER 2019
So, while Parliament is in a quandary about referendums, people’s votes and such like we had our own democratic review to get everyone’s point of view on the future of our WI. The outcome was essentially that we maintain the status quo and not change very much. However there were 2 items which came out of the survey -
1) over half the membership asked for additional outings to be organised throughout the year and as our committee already have a lot of behind the scenes work we need a member, or a couple of members, to step forward and act as our social secretary to organise this
2) Quite a few members asked for new sub groups – scrabble, cinema/theatre, outings, book club were the most suggested but, again, we would need members to set these things up
Speaking of which, have you realized just how much we did during 2019? All organised by committee members, which is why we need other folk to help….
Our little Lunch Club continues, as do our Knit & Natter and Walking groups
These activities were, of course, all in addition to our regular monthly meetings which saw us trying out reflexology, learning how to decorate cupcakes and hearing all about a life in the Peace Corps in Afghanistan. We had a fabulous talk about the SS Great Britain, learnt about weaving and Morris Dancing and in March, when our speaker failed to turn up one of our members quickly arranged a beetle drive - always a favourite it seeems.
Finally, if you go to our website, uckington-elmstonehardwickewi.weebly.com, you will find lots of photographs of things we’ve done, as well as our annual reports, programmes and general information.

- We had a coffee morning in April which raised £348 to boost our funds
- About half of us attended a workshop and painted terracotta pots
- Most of us went to Waterperry Gardens for the day in August which everyone seemed to enjoy
- We had an Afternoon Tea Party to celebrate the centenary of GFWI at the end of September
- A handful of us took part in the Tewkesbury Medieval Parade which led to our photograph being in WI Life
- Some of the Knit and Natter ladies knitted a display for the Centenary Celebration in Gloucester cathedral – lots of lovely comments made by the visitors and our County Chair was asked if we had used a pattern as it was wanted!
- We had a drawing class which was great fun and, again, about half of us attended.
