ANNUAL REPORT 13TH NOVEMBER 2014
Uckington & Elmstone Hardwicke WI has been fairly active over the last 12 months and this is a reminder of what we have been up to.
Speakers at our meetings have entertained us with a diverse range of subjects starting off with Scottish & Northumbrian pipes in December followed by the life of a Yeoman of the Guard, being a magistrate, the thrills and fun of sailing Tall Ships, gardening for bees and the life of a vicar's wife.
Our January meeting was a much enjoyed Beetle Drive. On 'Member's Night' in May Kim's husband brought along his bow-top caravan for us all to see and explore, July saw us sampling curry and in October Kim gave us a little taste of Rag Rug making.
Back last November Georgina and her merry band of helpers ran a successful Tombola stall at the annual craft fair held here in the hall.
In December some of us went out for a Christmas lunch and we have also met for lunch twice since, plus we had a morning coffee meet. We also had a collection in December for Cheltenham Open Door which they very much appreciated.
We had a craft day in March when we learnt quite a lot about pearls before having the opportunity to make earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
We were the host Institute for our annual Group Rally in April and had a most entertaining lady Toastmaster as our guest speaker - a lot of work and planning but well worth it and enjoyed by all.
June saw a small group of us visiting a temporary but most interesting World War 1 museum set up in Lansdown.
For our August outing Verina had arranged a small mystery trip out to Trioscape Garden Centre for lunch. The weather wasn't very kind to us but the food was good and a fair few members came away with plants for their gardens.
A major event of the year was the Fashion Show we hosted in September which was great fun, extremely well supported and gave a big boost to our bank account.
Our walking group continues to meet once a month - numbers vary as do our walks but we always seem to have fun.
Our monthly Knit & Natter does quite well. We produced an 'afternoon tea' display for the Group Rally (even managed a picture of that in the Gloucestershire News!) and we are currently knitting lap blankets for a local Nursing Home.
So, all in all, I think we've had a pretty good year.
